Beth Teller - Week 4 Post 1

Sara Krulwich is a female photojournalist who began after graduating in the 70's from the University of Michigan. During those times, trying to get a job as a photo journalist, as a female, was almost impossible. The majority of the field was white men. On one of her first interviews she was told, "hiring a woman, was like hiring half a person". She was constantly met with adversity trying to get her foot in the door. It wasn't until 1979, when she was finally able to get hired by the New York Time. Getting assignments was still quite a task, since most of them still went to the men. Woman started to get more recognition for their work in the 70's and 80's. Now Krulwich has a website/database (Woman Photograph) which is dedicated to female photographers with 5+ years of experience to get their work out there to be seen. Below is a few of the photographers featured on the webpage.
