Jen Davis has been working on a project of self portraits for the past ten years. Her goal is clear. She wants to capture the struggle of her weight problem and the emotions that are attached. In my opinion she does a wonderful job as a photographer, using soft natural light and compositions that are pleasing to the viewers. Each photo is well orchestrated but in everyday, believable environments for an obese middle class, middle aged, woman whose relationship with food has impacted her life so much that it consumes her personality. I personally have never battled a weight problem, but was intrigued enough by Davis's work, that I wanted to learn more about her struggle. Her photos creates empathy for people like her.
