Arnold Newman was a photographer who was known for his environmental portraits. In his project "Tom Arndt: Where I Live," he takes portraits of people but includes what's surrounding them. It gives you a more personal feel to the photographs because you can see what is they have around them. As the viewer is looking at them they can tell a story. Newman does a great just making his subject look natural. None of these photographs look forced.
Adam Jahiel’s photo project, The Last Cowboy is an arrangement of portraits and landscape shots. The photographs take you through what cowboys do throughout the day. Some of the photographs like, “Jon Griggs and his dog Maggie, Maggie Creek Ranch, NV” gives the viewer a more of a personal feel. It shows a cowboy sitting with his dog outside of a barn. Jahiel does a great job balancing his subjects and the surrounding land. All of the photographs feel balanced and the background never takes over the subject. It only enhances them.
