Maggie Shannon is a photographer who focuses on documenting things as well as portraits.  The first two images are from her series "Extreme Joy, But Also Extreme Pain" where she went about documenting births over the pandemic. The other two images are pulled from her personal website. The first photos I saw were were from her  "Extreme Joy, But Also Extreme Pain" and what attracted me to them is the intense emotions that I received from looking at the faces and boy language in the photos. The third photo I included because it stood out to me among the ones that I saw, I appreciate that raw facial expression that zoomed up too close. I also feel like it helps bring out her quirky side that's found in several of her portraits. The last photograph is a documentation from a dance, this one stood out to me because of the feeling of loneliness that it emanates. It is a documentation photo, but at the same time it's taken in such a way to deliberately give off emotions.

Edna Burke:

Burke is a photographer based in Ireland who is normally a street photographer, the following images are specifically from a series called "Homebound with my Parents" that Burke took during this pandemic time when the streets were closed. I was drawn to these photos primarily because of the colors, but on closer look the posing and set up is enticing to me and really draws me in to look around the photo more. The lighting in the photo and the harsh shadows in a lot of them are interesting to me because I think it helps bring this lightness on mood to the photo, helps hone in on the subjects as the shadows along with the bright light highlight their figure. I enjoy the last image the most with the bright yellow wall as the composition feels asymmetrically balanced along with a mood that I resonate with that I had a lot at the beginning of the pandemic. The bold colors and values and the harsh light help bring a brightness to the everyday activities that are being done.
