Judy Gelles', Family Portrait and I'm 39, series is about struggles of being a mother and a woman. Gelles documenting a time when she was going through crisis of wanting, and not being able to obtain. In this series she wanted to show the mundane events of ordinary life that are usually hidden to outsiders. She made this series over 30 years ago, and she explains how infrequently her work has been shown, or people have shown interest in it. She said that over the years views on her work and motherhood have changed, and many young mothers have been moved by her work.
Off the Page, is a show with artists from the Southlight Salon of Nashville—Jerry Atnip, Nick Dantona, Robert McCurley, Jerry Park, Mark Mosrie, Rick Smith, and Chuck Arlund. Above I included the photos of Chuck Arlund who I enjoyed the most. This show was to show the relationship between text and images. Each photo was suppose to create a narrative and imply questions about who, what, when, where, why they were taken. I really enjoy how mysterious these images are and I find it strange how the women are included. I find these images very masculine in a sense because of the set up of the subject.
I included both of these artists for the relationship between images and texts, and how it effects the outcome of images. I feel as text with images gives the viewer more insight on the mind of the artist, and is a very positive element. I personally think it makes a image 10x more interesting. It puts more of a emotion within me to help relate to each image.
