Austin Rich Post #3
Keliy Anderson-Staley: [hyphen] Americans. This series explores the use of the American invented "tintype" that was introduced in 1885 and was widely used till the 1930's. During its debut as a medium, Caucasians were predominately photographed as the "American People." These contemporary portraits explore the reality of diversity that the United States population holds. These tintypes, lacquered and blackened metal plates exposed over several seconds, hold a certain texture that modern film cannot achieve anymore. Faces in focus and bodies seemingly floating in primordial fluid give these a slightly haunting and intense look.
