These photos are in a series called Culture of Confrontation. These are images which take place in the Ukraine conflict of 2013. Maxim Dondyuk was actually trying to make an artistic statement rather than document the fighting. It seems like they are trying to glorify the protesters and the riot police at the same time. It's hard to guess which side the photographer wants us to root for.
