Beth Teller - Week 5 Post 1

Annie Ling is a Canadian based photographer. Her series "Independent Mother" is what drew my eye to her work. It speaks to me on a personal level just on photographs alone. However, Ling is drawing attention to the fact that "a stronger social safety net and benefits in contrast to other countries may explain why single mothers here have greater support and independence to pursue personal endeavors, career and further education." While Icelandic single mothers have an advantage to some other countries, the gender gap wage difference is among the highest in Europe.
